Recent reports in the national newspapers suggest that the average spend per couple is now around £18,000. Of course, some couples spend this alone on the venue or even the band. Some of the figures produced were 'eye-openers' and some costs were way-off the mark. Average cost 20 years ago was £4500!
Humanist wedding numbers increase
Humanist weddings have soared in popularity since they were legally recognised in Scotland,
Figures obtained from the Humanist Society show there were more than 400 last year - a five-fold increase on the figure for 2004.
The first legally recognised humanist wedding was in June 2005.
Previously, a marriage service was only legally binding if carried out by a minister of religion or a registrar.
In 2005, 434 couples had a humanist wedding, while in 2004 there were just 80.
